President Bush has authorized $17.4 billion in emergency loans to struggling U.S. carmakers to avoid a collapse of the industry. The controversial move will save hundreds of thousands of jobs from falling victim to a deep recession. The White House reports that the checks have been signed, and General Motors and Chrysler will access the money immediately.
I agree that the government should have stepped in to help these car companies, the same way I agreed with the decision to help the banks.
However, I don't understand why a bailout program isn't being assembled for small business owners. Successful small businesses fuel our economy, and create tons of jobs.
