Why Do Ducks Cross The Street When They Can Fly?

If you live in the suburbs, you may have noticed that ducks and geese generally prefer to cross the street instead of just flying over to the other side. Not only is it more challenging and dangerous for them to do this, but it really doesn't make any sense.

Of course, our brains are much bigger and filled with much more intellect - but yet many entrepreneurs will similarly choose the hard or challenging way instead of the easy and simple way when conducting business.

For instance, some companies are still hand-writing checks and dropping them off at the post office to pay their bills - when this can be done online much faster and easier through any bank via their Bill Pay feature.

Others still have amateur-designed web sites that can cause them to lose potential customers - when they can easily purchase an inexpensive professional web site template or hire an affordable freelancer to create one.

Another example is entrepreneurs who unnecessarily buy or rent office space - when they can easily work virtually at home or abroad.

These are just a few scenarios, but this trait can be manifested in many different ways. Take a good look at yourself and your company, and determine whether or not some adjustments are needed.

  1. I like the analogy. In fact I was having a conversation with a friend about ducks. We kept trying to figure out why do ducks love to play in traffic? We laughed and said they are playing chicken! Seriously, I agree with you whole heartily. People continue to struggle and do things the hard way. You would think with all of the modern day technology that this wouldn’t be the case but the fact remains that we will always have ducks in the street.
